Systems overview
Detector arrays and magnetic spectrometers for complementary measurements
AGATA can be coupled to complementary detector arrays and magnetic spectrometers to combine high-resolution gamma-ray spectroscopy with additional information on particles and reaction products. The configuration depends on the host laboratory, experimental campaign and physics goals. The overview below includes systems used with AGATA and developments designed for future coupling.
GRIT
Silicon charged-particle detection
GRIT (Granularity, Resolution, Identification, Transparency) is a silicon detector array under development for direct-reaction studies. It is designed to combine charged-particle identification with gamma-ray spectroscopy using arrays such as AGATA.
NEDA
Neutron detection
NEDA (NEutron Detector Array) is a next-generation neutron detector system designed to operate alongside AGATA in nuclear physics experiments. By combining high-resolution γ-ray tracking with efficient neutron detection, NEDA extends the experimental capabilities of AGATA and enables more comprehensive studies of nuclear structure and nuclear reactions. The array is optimised for detecting neutrons with energies ranging from a few hundred keV to more than 10 MeV and is used during selected experimental campaigns at major international laboratories.

NEDA Data Policy
Data Ownership
Data collected during experiments using NEDA are jointly owned by the NEDA Collaboration, the collaborating scientific teams involved in the experiment, and the laboratories where the experimental campaigns were carried out.
The scientific content of the data—including nuclear structure, nuclear reactions and any other research activities defined in the approved proposal—is assigned with priority to the experiment spokespersons and their collaborators.
Data Analysis Responsibilities
- Experiment spokespersons and their collaborators are expected to actively participate in the analysis of the data in order to retain priority access.
- A brief report on the status of the data analysis is requested annually by the NEDA Management Board.
Collaboration Access
NEDA data may also be accessed by members of the collaboration for detector performance studies, software validation and the development or testing of new data analysis techniques, in accordance with the policies established by the NEDA Management Board.
NEDA Publication Policy
Scope
The NEDA Publication Policy defines the procedure for submitting manuscripts based on scientific results obtained using the NEDA detector system. It applies to peer-reviewed physics publications and establishes the responsibilities of authors and the NEDA Core Authors.
NEDA Physics Publications
- A NEDA physics publication is a peer-reviewed article based on scientific results obtained in experiments using NEDA.
- Conference proceedings and technical publications are covered by separate policies.
- The NEDA Management Board maintains an official NEDA Core Author List.
Responsibilities of the Main Author
- Send the manuscript in PDF format to the NEDA publication coordinator before journal submission.
- Specify the relevant NEDA campaign and propose a response deadline for the Core Authors (recommended: two weeks).
- After the consultation period, include all Core Authors who have accepted co-authorship.
- The website administrators manage the co-author invitation process and maintain the final author list.
Responsibilities of NEDA Core Authors
- Core Authors receive an invitation to participate as co-authors for eligible publications.
- All submitted manuscripts must remain strictly confidential until publication.
- Before downloading a manuscript, Core Authors must accept the confidentiality agreement.
- Core Authors are responsible for keeping their affiliation and contact details up to date.
Conference Proceedings & Technical Publications
- Conference proceedings should follow standard authorship practice and the Chair of the NEDA Management Board should be informed upon publication.
- Technical publications describing NEDA developments should be reviewed by the NEDA Management Board before submission to ensure scientific consistency.
Contacts
The following resources are available to members of the collaboration. Access to these resources requires authentication:
- NEDA Manuscripts submitted through the Core Author procedure.
- NEDA Core Author Lists for the different experimental campaigns.

NEDA Workshops
NEDA@HIL Workshop 2021
The NEDA@HIL Workshop was held on 20–21 October 2021 at the Heavy Ion Laboratory (HIL), University of Warsaw, Poland. The workshop brought together members of the NEDA collaboration and the wider nuclear physics community to prepare the first experimental programme for the NEDA detector at HIL.
Objectives
- Present the NEDA detector system and its integration with the EAGLE γ-ray spectrometer.
- Discuss and strengthen ideas for future experimental projects.
- Encourage the preparation of proposals for submission to the HIL Programme Advisory Committee (PAC).
- Promote collaboration between researchers interested in experiments using the NEDA–EAGLE setup.
Outcome
The workshop marked an important milestone in preparing the scientific programme for NEDA at HIL. The discussions led to the development of experimental proposals for the first campaigns using the combined NEDA–EAGLE detection system, which became available from the second half of 2022.
PARIS
Gamma-ray detection
PARIS (Photon Array for studies with Radioactive Ion and Stable beams) is a gamma-ray calorimeter based on scintillator detectors. It provides complementary gamma-ray measurements and has been operated in combination with AGATA at GANIL.
PRISMA
Heavy-ion identification
PRISMA is a large-acceptance magnetic spectrometer at INFN Legnaro National Laboratories. Its ion-identification capabilities complement AGATA gamma-ray measurements in studies of nuclear structure and reaction dynamics.
VAMOS++
VAMOS++ is a large-acceptance magnetic spectrometer at GANIL. Trajectory reconstruction and particle detection allow reaction products to be identified in coincidence with gamma rays measured by arrays such as AGATA.
