Governance
AGATA is organised through a collaborative governance framework that ensures scientific excellence, transparent decision-making and the effective coordination of the collaboration.
ASC
AGATA Steering Committee
Project coordination and strategic decision-making
The AGATA Steering Committee (ASC) acts on behalf of the Parties defined in the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and is responsible for the overall strategic direction of the AGATA Collaboration.
The Committee oversees the coordination of the project, defines its scientific policy and supports the long-term development of AGATA. Working in close cooperation with the AGATA Collaboration Council (ACC) and the AGATA Management Board (AMB), the ASC ensures that the collaboration continues to meet its scientific and technical objectives across the different host laboratories.
The current organisation of the AGATA Steering Committee and its relationship with the Management Board, Working Groups and Local Project Managers are illustrated below.

AGATA Collaboration Meetings
The AGATA Collaboration Meeting is held annually and brings together members of the collaboration to review the status of the AGATA spectrometer, ongoing experimental campaigns and recent scientific results. The meeting includes an open scientific session followed by the closed annual meeting of the AGATA Collaboration Council (ACC). The meetings are organised by the Chair of the ACC with the support of members of the Council and are usually held in conjunction with a workshop on nuclear structure physics.

AGATA Data Policy
This version of the AGATA Data Policy is from 12 April 2021.
A PDF file of the policy can be downloaded using this
link.
Scope
- This policy covers the data generated by the AGATA spectrometer, including data generated using sources and following in-beam reactions.
- It pertains to the ownership, curation, access and exploitation of experimental data collected and/or stored by the AGATA project at the host laboratory and designated remote AGATA site(s).
- Acceptance of this policy is a pre-requisite to obtaining experimental time on AGATA.
Definitions
- Data relates to the data directly output from the AGATA system.
- For the initial period of AGATA operation at each host site, the data will include the signal waveforms for all events.
- A primary contact will be selected by each experimental collaboration awarded time on the AGATA instrument.
Ownership of the data
- All data obtained as a result of free, non-commercial access to AGATA resides with the AGATA Collaboration.
- The AGATA Collaboration is defined as the AGATA Collaboration Council (ACC).
- The AGATA Spokesperson is the chairperson of the ACC.
Curation of the data
- All data will be curated in well-defined formats specified by the AGATA Management Board (AMB).
- Data will be stored at the host laboratory for a temporary period, typically less than two months.
- Data will initially be transferred to GRID storage site(s) for archival.
- Transfer of data will be organised by the AMB.
- Storage of data at local laboratories is the responsibility of the experimental collaboration.
Access to the data
- Access to the data is controlled by the AGATA Collaboration.
- The AGATA Spokesperson will delegate this control to the experimental collaboration via the primary contact during the initial exploitation period.
- This initial period will typically last five years and may be extended upon request to the AGATA Spokesperson.
- After this period, the data will be made available to the wider AGATA Collaboration.
- Access for instrument operation, detector performance monitoring, pulse shape analysis, tracking and code development will be managed by the AMB and the AGATA Spokesperson.
- Password protection, authentication and authorisation will be used where possible and appropriate.
Exploitation
- The responsibility for exploitation resides with each experimental collaboration.
- The experimental collaboration is responsible for analysing the data, publishing results and disseminating information as widely as possible.
- Status reports of all experiments must be submitted annually to the ACC.
Publication information
- The ACC must be informed of publications relating to AGATA within three months of the publication date.
- The ACC must also be informed of talks, conference proceedings, annual reports, technical reports, theses and related outputs.
- The experimental collaboration should acknowledge the work of the wider AGATA Collaboration and the host laboratory in any publication.
Grid access
Instructions for joining the AGATA Virtual Organisation on the Grid and accessing data on the Grid can be found on the
AGATA Grid page
